Despite the prohibition on public gatherings, protesters marched on the streets in Istanbul, Ankara, and various other Turkish cities on their third consecutive night. Their aim was to protest the arrest of Ekrem İmamoglu, the immensely popular opposition politician and Istanbul Mayor. He is also a prominent contender against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the upcoming 2028 presidential elections.
