President Donald Trump’s administration has had a significant impact on the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), by using Elon Musk’s Digital Currency Group (DCG) to cut USAID spending. According to internal U.N. emails obtained by Fox News Digital, Milan Victor Dawoh, the president of the U.N. Field Staff Union, reported that approximately $30 million has been removed from the extra-budgetary resources of the organization, resulting in a substantial reduction in staff. This cut in funding is having a major effect on the UNDSS’s operational capacity, including the elimination of 100 positions and the withdrawal from 35 to 45 countries.
Dawoh warned that UNDSS is currently facing a severe liquidity crisis. He stressed that UNDSS serves as a risk management and analysis entity rather than a protection agency. The Department’s website describes its role in maintaining global security, which includes enabling the secure delivery of UN programs and activities in challenging environments. Fox News Digital sought further information but did not receive a response from Dawoh.
