At least two fatalities have been reported, and hundreds have been evacuated from their homes due to raging wildfires in South Korea on Saturday.
Two firefighters were found dead in Sancheong County, situated in the country’s southeast, according to Yonhap news agency, citing local officials.
In addition, two other individuals were reported missing amidst multiple fires engulfing the nation, as confirmed by the Korea Forest Service.
A nationwide state of disaster was declared at 18:00 local time (09:00 GMT) encompassing Ulsan city and North and South Gyeongsang provinces in the south-east.
Over a hundred residents were instructed to evacuate their homes in eight villages in Sancheong County, South Gyeongsang province, due to the fatal fire. Acting President Choi Sang-mok called for utmost efforts to put out the blaze by sunset, although strong winds hindered attempts approximately 250 kilometres (155 miles) southeast of Seoul.
In Uiseong county, North Gyeongsang Province, more than 400 individuals were displaced due to a wildfire.
The forest service issued a severe wildfire warning in twelve locations including Busan and the central city of Daejeon.
