Drone attacks by Russian forces in the Ukrainian capital result in at least three fatalities.

At least three people, including a five-year-old child, were killed in a series of drone attacks launched by Russia targeting Kyiv overnight on Sunday, according to local officials. The attack came ahead of ceasefire negotiations scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia, where Ukraine and Russia are expected to hold indirect talks mediated by the U.S. to discuss a pause in long-range attacks targeting critical infrastructure and civilian areas. The Ukrainian delegation is set to meet with U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia prior to the indirect talks, where technical teams will discuss the specifics of a partial ceasefire. Russia reportedly launched a total of 147 drones across Ukraine, but Ukrainian air defenses were able to shoot down 97 of them. The attacks also targeted regions such as Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Odesa, and Donetsk. The extended barrage of explosions caused panic among residents as drones and debris from downed drones hit residential buildings. The Kyiv City Military Administration stated that three people were killed and 10 others injured. Two buildings in the Dnipro district caught fire due to falling debris, resulting in the death of a woman. In the Podil district, a fire broke out on the 20th floor of a high-rise building. Fires also erupted in a warehouse and office building in Holosiivskyi, resulting in the death of one person. Additionally, on Sunday, Russia’s Ministry of Defence claimed to have shot down 59 Ukrainian drones, with one civilian killed in Rostov and a car set ablaze in southwestern Astrakhan due to a Ukrainian drone attack.
