Following President Donald Trump’s ongoing crackdown on foreign nationals, a plane carrying 199 people deported from the United States has arrived in Venezuela.
On Monday, the plane, which came from Honduras, landed at Maiquetia international airport near Caracas, marking the latest repatriation accepted by Venezuela since January.
Venezuela’s Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello announced at the airport that the country is receiving 199 compatriots.
Live footage showed young men in sweatsuits disembarking the plane, some of whom were smiling and clapping as officials watched.
Venezuela has agreed with the US to restart repatriation flights after a two-week standoff, according to Cabello, who added that the country is ready to welcome back Venezuelans wherever they may be.
Last month, the deportation pipeline was temporarily suspended. Trump claimed that Venezuela was not keeping up with the agreed-upon pace of accepting deported migrants, and Caracas announced it would no longer accept the flights in response.
