Ghana and Morocco work towards eliminating the need for visas

Ghana and Morocco have agreed to pursue the eradication of visa requirements for travelers between both nations, an initiative geared towards bolstering diplomatic and economic relationships.

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, declared that the agreement will be forthcoming for endorsement by the parliaments of both nations in the coming weeks. The nations have also pledged to broaden collaboration in sectors such as agribusiness, tourism, and security, after deliberations between Ablakwa and Morocco’s Ambassador to Ghana, Imane Ouaadil.

In response to recent social media posts about violence against Africans in Morocco, Ablakwa conveyed that the ambassador dismissed claims of a 700-person death toll, explaining that the widely shared footage pertained to a June 2022 border incident that led to 23 fatalities. He ensured that no casualties among Ghanaians were documented.

To strengthen ties further, Morocco has also tripled its annual scholarships offered to Ghanaian students, escalating the count from 90 to 270.

In another meeting, Ablakwa conversed with Russia’s Ambassador to Ghana, Sergei Berdnikov, to explore avenues for bilateral collaboration. He confirmed Ghana’s dedication to neutrality and its capacity as a champion for global harmony.
