Forty-one-year-old Brett Gardner, a prior player for the New York Yankees, and his wife Jessica are battling through a tragic ordeal after their youngest son, Miller Gardner, passed away during a family vacation. Miller, who was just 14 years old, was found dead in their hotel room in Manuel Antonio, a coastal resort area in Costa Rica, on Friday morning.
The couple disclosed in a statement, which the Yankees publicized, that they have “many questions and few answers” regarding the circumstances surrounding their son’s death. According to Costa Rica’s judicial investigation agency, the preliminary cause of death was asphyxia, possibly due to ingesting some food that may have led to an intoxication. However, the officials are awaiting final results from an autopsy and toxicology tests.
In the statement issued by Gardner’s family, Miller was depicted as a loving son and brother who enjoyed an active lifestyle full of football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
Acknowledging the loss, the Yankees’ organization expressed its deep sorrow, pointing out that both Brett and his wife, Jessica, grew up within the organization along with their two sons. The outfielder played for the Yankees from 2008 to 2021, helping the team win a World Series title in 2009, and was a beloved figure within the team and among fans.
