South Korea is currently battling wildfires that have doubled in size on Thursday, resulting in a death toll of 27 and over 20 injuries, reports from Yonhap news agency reveal.
These fires are considered the deadliest in the country’s history, having consumed more than 35,000 hectares, equivalent to 86,500 acres, according to officials.
“We are facing a national critical situation, with a significant number of casualties, due to the unprecedented spread of these forest fires,” stated acting President Han Duck-soo during a government response meeting.
