Khartoum Liberated: Sudan’s Sovereign Council Ousts RSF Forces

On Wednesday, Khartoum free from RSF control.

In recent weeks, the Sudanese army has been successful in regaining control of the Presidential Palace, and most recently, the airport in Khartoum from the RSF.

According to reports from Khartoum residents, RSF fighters were replaced by the army throughout the city centre, marking a major victory for the national army in the ongoing conflict that has divided the country for two years.

The war began when the military and the RSF clashed over power.

As the fighting spread across the country, the RSF took control of the airport, the Presidential Palace, and other areas.

Although seizing the capital does not end the conflict, the RSF still holds parts of the western Darfur region and other areas.

Earlier in the day, the military announced it had retaken the RSF’s last major stronghold in Khartoum, the Teiba al-Hasnab camp. The RSF had no immediate comment.

“This is a pivotal and decisive moment in Sudan’s history,” said Khalid Aleiser, the Information Minister and spokesperson for the military-controlled government, on social media. “Khartoum is free, as it should be.”

With the military in control of the airport and a calm situation in Khartoum, aid groups may be able to fly in more supplies to the country, which has been affected by conflict, leaving 14 million people displaced and pushing some areas into famine.

At least 28,000 people have lost their lives in the conflict, but the number is likely higher.
