A Spanish court recently overturned the sexual assault conviction of former Brazilian and Barcelona soccer star Dani Alves. Initially sentenced to four years and six months in prison after being found guilty of raping a woman in a Barcelona nightclub, Alves was released from prison in March 2024 while his appeal was being reviewed.

The top court in Spain’s Catalonia region cited inconsistencies and contradictions in the original ruling as the reason for the overturned conviction. Updates on this ongoing story are forthcoming.
