JD Vance Embracing the Chill in Greenland, Yet Offering No Warm Sentiments for European Allies | US News

The US vice president’s arrival in Greenland was met with a chilling reception, both literally and figuratively.

JD Vance and the second lady received no warm welcome from the islanders.

A scaled-up US delegation came with high expectations for engagement, but these were rapidly scaled down after the organizers of a dogsled race, a highlight of the local cultural calendar, declined their invitation.
The presence of the US delegation did little to address Greenland’s concerns, and instead of being greeted by locals, they were met by their own troops stationed to warn of potential long-range missile attacks.

Denmark became the target of the vice president’s criticism, amidst calls for Greenland’s independence.

Despite claims that military action is unnecessary, the United States president clarified the importance of Greenland, stating, “We cannot do without it,” and leaving the possibility of forceful action on the table.
The geopolitical interests concerning Greenland, including its strategic location and resources, highlight further challenges and tensions in the Arctic region for global powers like Europe, Russia, and the United States.
