The Israeli military issued evacuation orders on Monday for almost all of Rafah, suggesting a potential return to ground operations in the city after the ceasefire with Hamas ended. The military advised civilians to move to Mawasi, where tent camps were set up along the coast. Israel claims they are resuming military operations to weaken terrorist organizations, urging immediate relocation to shelters in Al Mawasi for safety. Earlier this month, supplies to Gaza were halted to pressure Hamas. Israel also conducted its first strike on Beirut since the ceasefire ended. A major Israeli operation in Rafah was launched in May, controlling a strategic corridor and border crossing at Rafah. Israel argued it needed to block weapons smuggling but Hamas rejected Israel’s demands for disarmament and withdrawal from Gaza. Israeli PM Netanyahu stated that Israel would maintain security in Gaza and enforce a proposal by President Trump to resettle Palestinian civilians elsewhere, a plan rejected by Palestinians and criticized for potential violations of international law. The deal for the hostages’ release and Israeli military withdrawal is stalled, with negotiations having commenced since February.
