Marine Le Pen Found Guilty of Embezzlement in France

French right-wing leader Marine Le Pen and eight members of her party were found guilty of embezzling public funds, with Le Pen banned from running for public office. The French court did not specify how long Le Pen would be ineligible. Le Pen said that barring her from running for president in 2027 would be “political death.” She argued that such a sentence would disenfranchise her 11 million voters. Le Pen has been a contender in recent French elections, and her National Rally party has gained support.
