Myanmar announces a week-long period of national mourning in response to the rising death toll from the earthquake, which has now surpassed 2,700 deaths.


Myanmar’s military government has declared a one-week period of national mourning starting April 1 through April 7, with national flags flown at half-mast, to honor and mourn the lives lost and damages inflicted by a significant earthquake. The disaster has resulted in over 2,000 fatalities. Meanwhile, rescue efforts in Thailand are losing hope of discovering additional survivors among the debris.
