African religions in Brazil face threat from Evangelicals’ ‘holy war’

In Brazil, during 2024, there was a noted escalation in incidents of religious-based prejudice and aggression, with a nearly 70% surge compared to the previous year, as per the human rights ministry. This concerning trend primarily targets faiths rooted in Africa, including Umbanda and Candomblé. Devotees of these religions are subjected to threats, and their places of worship have been vandalized and looted.
