Canada has firmly placed itself at the forefront of the ongoing trade conflict initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump. In response to new tariffs imposed by the U.S., Canada has taken a strong stance by imposing $60 billion in counter-tariffs on American goods.
In an interview with Euronews, Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly discussed Canada’s role in the trade dispute and emphasized the country’s leadership in imposing counter-measures. Joly mentioned Canada’s collaboration with the EU and Asian partners to put maximum pressure on the U.S. She also highlighted the importance of a united NATO and warned that geopolitical instability could benefit adversaries such as China and Russia.
Joly expressed confidence that the American public opposes Trump’s actions and believes that they will play a key role in resolving the conflict. Additionally, she stressed the importance of a united NATO and the need to engage with as many countries as possible to maintain global security.
As the trade war with the U.S. intensifies, Canada remains a key player in opposing U.S. tariffs and in safeguarding global stability.
