A 15-year-old boy who tragically died after encountering difficulties in a lake in south-east London has been identified by the police as Izaiah Smith. His body was recovered from the lake on Friday night, and the Metropolitan police reported on Sunday that although his death was unexpected, there are no suspicions of foul play.
Police and paramedics were summoned to Beckenham Place Park in Lewisham shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday, where specialized diving teams, ambulance crews, and firefighters conducted a search for the teenager. Izaiah was found on Friday night, and according to Scotland Yard, he was pronounced dead upon being taken to the hospital.
The family of Izaiah has been notified of the incident and is receiving support from the authorities.
The SEDA Football Academy also paid tribute to Izaiah, stating that he was a beloved member of their under-16s team. They described him as a bright and cheerful individual whose character and energy will be greatly missed.
The Lewisham council, which oversees the park, announced on Saturday that the park has reopened; however, the lake will remain closed with security measures in place until further notice. The council is collaboratively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident with the police.
