div>Palestinian officials reported on Sunday that a shooting by an Israeli settler in the West Bank town of Turmus Ayya has resulted in the death of a 14-year-old US citizen named Omar Mohammad Rabea. The incident occurs amidst rising tensions and frequent altercations between Israeli settlers and Palestinians across the occupied territories.
Mayor Adeeb Lafi of Turmus Ayya informed Reuters that Omar Mohammad Rabea, along with two other teens, was shot by an Israeli settler near the town’s entrance.
Lafi stated, “Two of the victims were taken by ambulance to a nearby medical center and then to the hospital. The army arrived at the scene and detained the third injured boy, who is 14 years old and holds US citizenship.”
According to Lafi, the army later pronounced Rabea deceased and is currently holding his body. The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed his death due to “occupation forces.”
The Israeli army has yet to issue a comment on the incident.
Settler violence in the West Bank has escalated since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023, involving incursions into occupied territories and attacks on Bedouin villages and encampments.
Donald Trump’s administration removed sanctions on violent Israeli settlers that were previously imposed by European countries and the Joe Biden administration.
