South Korea Announces Early Election Following Ousting of President Yoon Suk Yeol

South Korea’s acting president Han Duck-soo announced on Tuesday that a presidential election will be held on 3 June. The announcement follows the impeachment and removal of predecessor Yoon Suk Yeol for his controversial declaration of martial law, which led to his ousting from office. The statement aimed to halt parliamentary proceedings. The government will designate June 3 as a temporary public holiday to facilitate voting, in accordance with the constitutional court’s decision which upheld Yoon’s removal.
