Yemen Hit by US Strikes, With Reports of Over 38 Fatalities | Global Updates

An image showcasing a US air strike on a fuel port in Yemen, reported by Houthi-run media, has resulted in at least 38 fatalities and injured 102 people. Should this be verified, it would mark one of the most deadly days since Donald Trump’s administration initiated a military campaign against the Iran-backed Houthi group last month. The United States has emphasized that the strikes will persist unless the Houthis halt their attacks on Red Sea shipping lanes, which have been under consistent bombardment since November 2023. The Houthis claim their actions are in response to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, though their attacks paused during a two-month ceasefire earlier this year. A statement from the US Central Command via their X platform asserts the strike’s objective was to undermine the Houthis’ economic power, suggesting it is aimed to prevent further suffering of the Yemeni people, who are said to desire liberation from Houthi control. The US authorities have not yet commented on the reported casualty figures from the strikes. In the past, the Biden administration has executed similar missile strikes against the Houthis in response to their assaults on commercial and military vessels in the Red Sea.
