Carlo Acutis: The Path to Sainthood and the Story of the Young Saint Carlo

Carlo Acutis, a London-born teenager who passed away nearly 20 years ago, is set to become the Catholic Church’s first millennial saint. In 1991, Acutis’s family moved from London to Milan, Italy, where he lived a dedicated life to Catholicism, leading to his untimely death from leukemia in 2006 at the age of 15. With his sainthood trials successfully completed, Acutis is scheduled for canonization on April 27 in St Peter’s Square, Vatican City. To become a saint in the Catholic Church, candidates go through a series like being recognized as ‘venerable’ by the Pope, beatification through acknowledged miracles, and then sainthood on confirmation of a second miracle. Acutis was dubbed ‘God’s influencer’ for using technology to spread the Catholic faith. He started by publishing newsletters for his local churches and later cared for a Vatican-based academy’s website. He notably documented Eucharistic miracles online, which led to a website now translated into many languages. In 2018, Acutis was named venerable after the church recognized his virtuous life, his body was later enshrined in Assisi. His beatification was confirmed by Pope Francis after verifying the first miracle attributed to Acutis, involving the healing of a Brazilian boy named Mattheus Vianna. A second miracle in Italy, the healing of a girl with severe head trauma, led to his sainthood.’>
