The Benue state governor’s office in Nigeria has reported that attacks carried out by nomadic cattle herders resulted in the deaths of at least 56 people in central Nigeria in a single night. Land use competition, which has long been a cause of tension between predominantly Muslim pastoralists and predominantly Christian farmers, is believed to be the reason behind these attacks.
