Ukraine’s military reported Russian drone attacks in several regions after a 30-hour “Easter truce” declared by Moscow. Raids were issued for Kyiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy, Mykolaiv, and Zaporizhzhia. In Mykolaiv, explosions were heard following the attack, and it was unclear if there were any casualties. Russia’s military has not commented on the reported attacks, which occurred after the truce declared by President Vladimir Putin expired. Both sides accused each other of violating the ceasefire.
The BBC has not independently verified the claims made by Kyiv and Moscow. US President Donald Trump expressed hope for a possible deal between Russia and Ukraine this week, but provided no further details. The full-scale invasion by Russia on Ukraine began on February 24, 2022, with Moscow currently controlling around 20% of Ukraine’s territory, including the Crimean Peninsula. Hundreds of thousands of people, mostly soldiers, have been killed or injured since 2022.
In response to a full and unconditional ceasefire agreed by the US and Ukraine, Moscow came up with a long list of conditions last month.
