DHL Express is halting some shipments to the US as Donald Trump’s new tariff policy goes into effect.
Starting from 21 April, shipments valued at more than $800 (£603) to US consumers from “any origin” will be temporarily halted.
New rules introduced at the beginning of April made such shipments subject to increased customs checks.
“This change has led to a surge in formal customs clearances, which we are handling around the clock,” reported the delivery service.
Business-to-business shipments valued over $800 are not affected by the halt, but DHL warned they may still experience delays.
Shipments under $800 to both businesses and consumers are not impacted, but a British cycle manufacturer noted that its US customers may need to divide orders over $800 into “smaller shipments” to avoid bureaucratic obstacles.

Administration Aims to Curb ‘Deceptive’ Methods
In May, shipments from China and Hong Kong valued at under $800 “will be subject to all applicable duties,” as per the White House.
“President Trump is combating deceitful shipping practices by China-based shippers, many of whom hide illicit goods, including synthetic opioids, in low-value packages,” it stated.
Previously, shipments under $800 didn’t incur duties, enabling low-cost Chinese retailers such as Shein and Temu to gain a foothold in the US.
Both have cautioned that their prices will rise due to the alterations in policies, commencing 25 April.
