Argentina Grieves for Humble Pope and Beloved Native Son

On Wednesday, many Argentine faithful attended church services to honor Pope Francis following his death.

The day after it was confirmed, a drought of tears that her church never witnessed before gathered. Dozens joined the Roman Catholic congregation in Buenos Aires — Pope Francis’s hometown. Others from different parts of the country prayed and embraced during funeral masses held around the rural areas.

A woman cried, clutching a photo of the Pope she had framed. She wiped her tears and said he was a kind man who greeted her outside his mass. He held her hand and said the rosary with her; she didn’t expect such a kind gesture from the cardinal at that time.
