Mexico calls for withdrawal of allegedly prejudicial US immigration advertisement – DW – 22nd April 2025

The Mexican government announced on Monday that they have requested television stations to halt airing of a US advertisement that cautions against unauthorized migration. The advertisement, which features US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, advises potential migrants against entering the US unlawfully and threatens consequences for those who do so. According to Mexican City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum, the advertisement is discriminatory and runs contrary to human dignity, with the potential to incite violence towards migrants. The advertisement is part of a larger campaign by the Trump administration aimed at reducing migration and addressing drug trafficking. Sheinbaum is considering implementing reforms that would include banning foreign governments from advertising on Mexican TV networks.
