Since the conflict in Ukraine, Central Asia has become a significant focal point for investment opportunities. Leading the charge is Kazakhstan, which has secured £15.7 billion worth of projects in 2024, representing 63% of all investments in the region.
The European Union stands as the largest contributor of investments, making up 43%, with Russia following closely at 22%. Although the majority of the investments are funnelled towards the oil and gas sectors, Kazakhstan is actively striving towards economic diversification. Notable companies, such as Alstom, are harnessing this strategic pivot, focusing on railway and infrastructure projects that are instrumental for fostering long-term growth and enhancing regional trade dynamics.
