Senator Bridget McKenzie of the Nationals asserts that the Coalition will not reduce the number of working holiday visas, a topic of interest in the lead-up to the 2025 Australian election.

The Coalition will not cut working holiday visas as part of their plan to reduce migration, according to senior Nationals senator Bridget McKenzie. The Coalition has faced pressure to provide more details on which immigration streams they will target if they come into power. Peter Dutton has previously stated that the increase in immigration over the past two years has contributed to higher house prices. Under the Coalition’s proposed policy, permanent migration would be reduced from 185,000 in 2024-25 to 140,000 in 2025-26, and would then gradually increase over the following two years. Shadow immigration minister Dan Tehan confirmed that the skilled migration intake would be dramatically cut, but said that the family stream intake would not be touched. Dutton has stated that net overseas migration levels would be reduced by 100,000 if he is elected as prime minister. However, McKenzie clarified on ABC TV that working holiday visas would not be targeted.
