Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Rajasthan Royals becomes the youngest person to score a T20 century after hitting a breathtaking 35-ball 100 against the Gujarat Titans in the IPL.
A 14-year-old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, made history by becoming the youngest centurion in men’s Twenty20 cricket. He led Rajasthan Royals to an eight-wicket victory over the Gujarat Titans in an IPL match in Jaipur.
On Monday, Suryavanshi’s explosive batting cost Gujarat’s bowling unit dearly as he hit 11 sixes and seven fours on his way to scoring 101 off 38 balls, helping his team chase a target of 209 runs in just 15.5 overs.
Moreover, Suryavanshi achieved his 100 in just 35 balls, which is the second-fastest century in IPL history. He partnered with Yashasvi Jaiswal in an impressive 166-run opening stand.
The player of the match said, “It feels very good. This is my first century in the IPL and it’s just my third innings. We’ve shown good practice before the tournament, and now the results are here. I just see the ball and play. I have dreamed about scoring a 100 in the IPL, and today, that dream came true. I don’t have any fear; I just focus on playing the game.”
Suryavanshi’s century was also the fastest by an Indian in the IPL, surpassing Yusuf Pathan’s record of a 37-ball century for Rajasthan against Mumbai Indians in 2010. Pathan congratulated Suryavanshi and mentioned how special it was to see this happen while playing for Rajasthan Royals.
Suryavanshi made headlines when he became the youngest player to secure an IPL contract at age 13. Earlier in the month, he made an impressive debut with a six off his first deliveries. Suryavanshi competed in the Ranji Trophy and represented India’s Under-19 team against Australia, where he scored a century in 58 balls.
With this victory over Gujarat, Rajasthan ended a five-game losing streak, making them eighth in the IPL standings.Rajasthan Royals’ Vaibhav Suryavanshi in action against the Gujarat Titans at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, India on April 28, 2025 [Reuters/Abhijit Addya]
