Canadians went to the polls on Monday to determine the next leader of their country and the United States’ largest trading partner. The election was closely contested, with the unpredictable tariffs imposed by the Trump administration and musings of annexing its resource-rich neighbor, casting a shadow over the race between the two front-runners. Mark Carney, a former banker and leader of the ruling Liberal Party, narrowly led Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the Conservative Party, before the voting began.
