China contends that the United States is responsible for the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, asserting that Washington is avoiding accountability for the virus following statements by President Donald Trump suggesting it may have leaked from a laboratory in Wuhan. In a detailed report, the Communist Party claims the infectious disease was already present in the United States earlier than official records show.
The report criticizes the U.S. for dodging responsibility and blames the country’s internal troubles on its refusal to acknowledge its role in the outbreak. The White House has been contacted regarding these claims.
Meanwhile, the White House has recently revamped its COVID.gov website, presenting evidence that supports the lab-leak theory, casting doubt on the naturally occurring theory by highlighting inconsistencies in former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci’s actions and the lack of evidence for a natural origin. The site also addresses the origins of social distancing rules and mask mandates.
China’s claim is at odds with the Trump administration’s 2025 CIA report, which suggested that a lab leak is the likely origin of the COVID-19 virus. A joint study with the World Health Organization (WHO) previously concluded that COVID-19 was most likely transmitted from bats to humans through another animal.
The report accuses the U.S. of inadequately combating the virus and criticizes its response to the pandemic’s early stages, suggesting that instead of addressing its shortcomings, the U.S. government has sought to shift the blame and politicize the origins of SARS-CoV-2.
