Rapid Support Forces (RSF) insurgents launch assault on Port Sudan, military reports – DW – 05/04/2025

The Sudanese military has announced that the eastern city of Port Sudan, which has served as the government’s temporary seat of power since the conflict began in 2023, was struck by paramilitary forces in a drone attack on Sunday. Army spokesperson Nabil Abdullah stated that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) were responsible for the attack, which targeted the Osman Digna Air Base, a goods warehouse, and some civilian facilities. Although no casualties were reported, there was limited damage. Before the attack, Port Sudan had not experienced any violence in the two-year-long conflict, suggesting an escalation in RSF’s drone strikes on areas under army control, which have expanded in scope and frequency following their loss of control in other regions, including most of Khartoum.
