Marvel Studios’ “Thunderbolts,” featuring an ensemble of antihero rejects similar to the Avengers, debuted with moderate success, earning $76 million in domestic ticket sales. Despite the good word of mouth, with an 88% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A-” CinemaScore from audiences, the film’s performance suggests Marvel is still facing challenges in regaining its past box office dominance. Interestingly, the film introduces the next chapter in the MCU, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” set to release on July 25. Surpassing expectations, “Sinners,” a Warner Bros-produced vampire movie set in 1932, retained its grip on the box office in third place, adding $33 million in its third week. Additionally, “A Minecraft Movie” continued its remarkable run, grossing another $13.7 million, bringing its North American total close to $400 million and a worldwide total of $873.4 million. Meanwhile, “Rust,” the controversial film over the tragic on-set death of Halyna Hutchins, made a modest debut, grossing approximately $25,000 in its opening weekend.
