Nevertheless, Trump claimed Sheinbaum refused his proposal because she is “so afraid of the cartels, she can’t walk.” Sheinbaum had previously stated that she informed Trump that Mexico would not accept the presence of US troops on its territory, emphasizing that Mexico’s sovereignty is inviolable.
