Authorities, including police and park rangers, along with excavation equipment, arrive at Brisbane parks as residents of the tent city prepare for eviction in Queensland.

Three councils in Queensland’s southeast have implemented or initiated crackdowns on homeless camps this week, with Brisbane city council, the City of Moreton Bay, and the Gold Coast city council each denying coordination between their efforts. Residents of tent cities in Brisbane’s Musgrave Park and Carey Park in the Gold Coast now face eviction after being issued notices. In Moreton Bay’s Eddie Highland Park, residents were cleared out for the third time in a month with the aid of an excavator and police. Homelessness support organizer Ember Lenarduzzi questioned the lack of coordination between the councils, expressing skepticism over the timing of the actions. The authorities have been working to move rough sleepers out of parks in preparation for upcoming events and have emphasized concerns over safety and antisocial behavior. Housing outreach officers have been engaging with the homeless population, and will continue their efforts in the coming weeks.
