Pakistan’s military media wing reports the country has carried out strikes on “multiple targets” within India.
In a statement, Pakistan asserts it initiated Operation Bunyan ul Marsoos (Solid Wall of Steel) in response to alleged “continuous provocation” by India.
“Strikes are being directed at multiple targets across India as part of this operation,” the statement continued.
Reuters reports that Pakistan has aimed at an Indian missile storage facility and airbases located in Pathankot and Udhampur.
There has been no independent verification of these strikes, but this action represents the latest escalation in a conflict stemming from a deadly attack last month in India-controlled Kashmir.
Among the 26 civilians killed, most were Hindu Indian tourists. India attributes the attack to Pakistan’s support for the assault, a claim which Islamabad denies.
State-run Pakistani television reports that retaliatory strikes are ongoing after India launched missiles at three air bases in Pakistan on Friday; however, Pakistan claims most of the missiles were intercepted.
