A duck was caught speeding using traffic cameras in Koeniz, central Switzerland.
Local police stated that the mallard, a wild duck, was recorded on radar images on April 13, traveling at a speed of 52km (32 miles) in a 30km zone.
Adding to the mystery, authorities revealed that the duck was likely a repeat offender and shared an image of a similar-looking duck traveling in the same spot, at the same speed, and on the same date in 2018.
There is speculation that the “notorious racer” duck incident could be a belated April Fool’s joke, but the police inspectorate stated that it is impossible to manipulate images on the radar system.
Authorities also mentioned that traffic cameras in Switzerland are tested annually by the Federal Institute of Metrology, and the photos taken are sealed.
In a Facebook post, Koeniz officials expressed their amusement and wished the public “a lot of fun” in making sense of the “curious coincidences” that have occurred over the past seven years.
Their post read, “We wish you a lot of fun sensing about curious coincidences, criminal machinations of animals, and the maximum flight speed of ducks.”
Some comments have asked about the penalty for the “racer duck’s” transgressions.
