New video surfaces as police maintain their stance that the arson at Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne was politically driven | Australian News

The ultra-orthodox Adass community in Melbourne has been provided support as the authorities prepare to release a “confronting” video showing the community’s synagogue being set on fire in December. The Victorian Joint Counter Terrorism Team (JCTT) has distributed images of the individuals believed to be responsible for the Adass Israel Synagogue arson attack in December. The team maintains that the incident was a “politically-motivated attack.” The investigation remains classified as a terrorism inquiry. In a statement, the JCTT mentioned that investigators have examined hundreds of hours of CCTV footage and are releasing this footage in the hopes of encouraging those with information to come forward. Community leaders were notified by the police that the footage would be released before a press conference in the afternoon; police also advised leaders to inform their congregation about the distressing nature of the footage ahead of time. The released CCTV shows a blue Golf sedan driving by the synagogue repeatedly before parking at the entrance on December 6, 2024. Three individuals dressed in hoodies and masks then exited the vehicle and used an axe to damage the entrance before pouring the contents of red jerry cans inside the entrance and entering the building. Apparently, the vehicle used in the arson attack was stolen and had previously been involved in other criminal activities, including arsons and shootings. Police believe there are multiple offenders involved in the synagogue arson, both directly and indirectly. More details will be provided soon.
