South African Leader Set to Contest Trump Over Afrikaner Migrants

South Africa has been a focus of criticism for President Trump during his second term.

Mr. Trump made untrue claims that white farmers in South Africa are facing a genocide. On May 12, he welcomed some of these farmers as refugees in the U.S. Additionally, he expelled South Africa’s ambassador to the U.S. and reduced American aid to the country.

South Africa will address Mr. Trump’s information during President Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit to the White House on Wednesday.

President Ramaphosa must balance his country’s principles and avoid provoking Mr. Trump. While America is South Africa’s second-largest trading partner, their policies to address apartheid-era inequalities upset Mr. Trump.

President Ramaphosa aims to convince Mr. Trump that maintaining close ties with South Africa, the largest economy in Africa, can benefit the United States. He will also attempt to improve his relationship with Elon Musk, a native South African and one of the president’s most outspoken critics.
