Three countries allies of Israel have released a statement criticizing Israel’s expansion of military operations in the Gaza Strip. The allies – Britain, France, and Canada – voiced their opposition to Israel’s “egregious” plan to take control of the area. The inhabitants of Gaza are enduring “intolerable” conditions, and the three nations are urging Israel to immediately allow humanitarian aid to enter the region.
Since the 2nd of March, no aid has been permitted into Gaza, drawing criticism from various aid organizations, including the United Nations. Although Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Israel would grant a “basic amount of food” to enter the sector following an 11-week pause, far-right members of his cabinet have expressed disapproval. They deem it as giving in to international pressure and therefore inadequate.
Israel will continue its operations until total victory is achieved, according to Netanyahu, in response to the allies’ statement. He condemned the support of “European leaders” for the October 7 attack on Israel. However, he acknowledged the concerns from his “greatest friends in the world” regarding images of civilians starving in the Gaza Strip.
The allied countries also threatened to take “concrete action” if Israel fails to stop its attacks and permit aid to enter the strip. Airstrikes killed hundreds over the weekend in Gaza, including both civilians and militants. In a statement, the UK, France, and Canada reiterated their support for a ceasefire and a two-state solution. They also asserted their opposition to any attempts to expand settlements in the West Bank, which they regard as being “illegal”.
