The Post Office is set to compensate hundreds of former sub-postmasters after inadvertently leaking their names and addresses in June 2024. Individual compensation will be limited to £5,000, with potential for higher claims to be pursued.
This development comes nearly a year after the Horizon IT scandal, where 555 victims had personal details published online. Depending on whether the leaked address is current, victims will receive £5,000 or £3,500. The Post Office has contacted affected individuals directly or through their solicitors regarding the compensation.
Although the law firm Freeths has confirmed payments to 348 data breach-affected clients, Will Richmond-Coggan of Freeths has emphasized that more work is needed to fully address the breach’s impact on those affected. The Post Office has been approached for further comment by PA Media.
