North Korea has initiated an investigation into an incident that occurred during the launch of its second naval destroyer, state media reported Friday. The accident, which involved damage to the vessel’s hull, happened on Wednesday during the launch ceremony at the port of Chongji. The country’s Central Military Commission, chaired by Kim Jong Un, classified the event as criminal negligence and summoned officials for questioning, emphasizing that those responsible will face consequences. Despite the damage being “[not] serious,” it will still take about 10 days to repair. The ship is one of North Korea’s largest and most advanced warships, with analysts suggesting it might have been developed with Russian assistance.
