Zoe Daniel has requested the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) to conduct a recount in the seat of Goldstein after Liberal Tim Wilson emerged 260 votes ahead in the final distribution of preferences. The AEC typically recounts votes automatically if the margin is less than 100, but candidates can also request one if they believe there are sufficient grounds for it. Daniel stated that her request was based on expert advice, highlighting the tight margin and errors in the vote count that affected the final stages. She emphasized that several questions about the broader count would be resolved by a recount. An AEC spokesperson confirmed that a recount request was being considered, but it was not appropriate to comment further until a decision was made. Wilson rebutted, citing that the Liberal party always had a majority of votes and that the threshold for an automatic recount was never reached.
Furthermore, in the Sydney seat of Bradfield, there will be a full recount following a close race between Liberal candidate Gisele Kapterian and independent Nicolette Boele, with Kapterian leading by just eight votes.
