Scientists in Germany uncover rare metals originating from Earth’s core in volcanic sites of Hawaii.

A German university, Göttingen University, has made a remarkable discovery of precious metals in volcanic rocks from Hawaii. Dr. Nils Messling of the university’s Department of Geochemistry stated that they were surprised to find that the test results confirmed the presence of gold and other precious metals in the rocks. The discovery suggests that material from the Earth’s core, including gold, is leaking into the Earth’s mantle. This finding not only shows that the Earth’s core is not as isolated as previously assumed but also proves that super-heated mantle material rises from the core-mantle boundary to form ocean islands like Hawaii. The presence of ruthenium isotopes, which are different from those on the Earth’s surface, was detected using new testing procedures developed by researchers at the University of Göttingen. The discovery opens up new perspectives on the evolution of the Earth’s inner dynamics and suggests that the supplies of gold and other metals important for renewable energy may have come from the Earth’s core.
