Israeli forces have killed 24 Palestinians who were waiting for aid distribution, according to the health ministry of Hamas-controlled Gaza.
These fatalities occurred in the Rafah region of Gaza early Tuesday morning.
The health ministry in Gaza stated that numerous individuals were injured, with some in severe condition.
According to the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), shots were fired at individuals around half a kilometre from the US-backed GHF aid site, claiming that the individuals were moving in a manner that endangered their forces.
This incident follows Israel’s recent acceptance of a US-mediated ceasefire proposal, which would lead to the release of nine live hostages and half of the deceased hostages over the course of a week.
Last week, Hamas requested amendments to the proposed 60-day truce, offering ten live Israeli hostages and the remains of eighteen deceased hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
In an official statement, the IDF asserted, “Earlier today (Tuesday), as the crowd moved along the specified routes towards the aid site – approximately half a kilometre away – IDF soldiers identified several individuals approaching them, veering off the designated access routes.
“Warning shots were fired by the soldiers, and after the individuals failed to retreat, additional shots were aimed near several individuals who continued towards the soldiers.”
