Individual accused of homicide following discovery of Leanne Akrap’s remains in western Sydney wilderness | New South Wales

A man has been charged with murder in connection with the body of a woman found in bushland in western Sydney. The police received a call on Sunday after the body of 47-year-old Leanne Akrap was located in the area. Akrap was discovered lying next to her clothing and some rubbish. Detectives investigating the case stated that it appeared the body had been in the location for some time before being discovered. A crime scene was established and an investigation launched by the homicide squad, though the cause of death has not been discussed publicly yet by authorities. Bryan Steven Johnson, also 47, was arrested on Monday evening at a home in Hobartville and has been charged with murder. He was denied bail and will appear before Penrith local court on Tuesday. Forensic teams were seen at the scene on Monday, searching bins and a unit a short distance from where the body was found. They are continuing their investigation. Additional reporting on this story has been provided by the Australian Associated Press.
