Exposing the Brave: Devi Khadka’s Crusade against Conflict-Related Sexual Abuse | Film Feature

At the age of 17, Devi Khadka was arrested during the early stages of Nepal’s civil war in the late 1990s. Accused of being a rebel, she endured torture and rape while in custody. Rebel leaders branded her as a “rape victim,” which subjected her to societal shame and isolation. Despite facing these adversities, Khadka enlisted in the rebel forces and progressed within its ranks.
Following the conclusion of the war, she became a member of Nepal’s Parliament but soon felt disheartened when she discovered that the country’s leaders aimed to conceal the truth behind the instances of wartime rape. As the face of the survivors, Khadka finds it impossible to remain silent. Filled with a resolute determination for justice, she embarks on a mission to unite the overlooked women of Nepal and seeks to reclaim the deliberately erased history.
“Devi Khadka: The Undefeated” is a documentary film produced by Subina Shrestha.
