The German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI) is advocating for the EU to only target completed aircraft and helicopters with retaliatory tariffs, sparing the market for supply components. This stance aligns with the position of the French aerospace sector, in the event trade consultations between the EU and the US fail. BDLI emphasized the importance of this approach through an email to Euronews, arguing it is crucial to prevent unnecessary disruption to European and global production chains.
“If the EU must act, counter-tariffs should be strictly limited to fully completed aerospace products, such as complete aircraft and helicopters, and must explicitly exclude spare parts or critical components,” BDLI stated. The position is supported by Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury, also emphasizing the need to avoid measures affecting spare parts to maintain the global supply chain’s integrity.
