Zakharova also expressed concern over the safety of Russian personnel and infrastructure at Iran’s Bushehr nuclear plant. This facility, which received construction support from Russia and is currently undergoing an expansion, has over 200 Russian workers involved in building two additional reactors.
With escalating fears of a wider regional conflict, Russia’s nuclear agency Rosatom has evacuated several dozen workers from the site. Alexei Likhachev, the agency’s chief, cautioned that an Israeli strike on Bushehr could result in a nuclear disaster comparable to the 1986 Chernobyl incident.
According to Zakharova, Iran remains committed to its nuclear non-proliferation treaty obligations and is open to negotiations with the U.S., but only if Israel stops its attacks.
