At least four individuals have lost their lives due to a Russian missile and drone assault on Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, according to the interior minister.
On social media, Ihor Klymenko reports that residential zones, medical facilities, and sports venues suffered damages.
In the Shevchenkivskyi district, considered the hardest hit, “a whole section of a residential tower block has been annihilated,” with some people presumed to be trapped under the debris.
A woman was killed and two more people were injured by the Russian airstrike in the Kyiv region, says regional leader Mykola Kalashnyk.
The Russian military has not issued any comments regarding the incident.
Ukraine’s emergency service, DSNS, reports that thirteen people, including two children and a pregnant woman, were wounded in Kyiv.
They shared footage of distressed citizens being escorted away from a burning, destroyed tower block.
Numerous fires have been reported across the city.
Local officials mention that an entrance to one of the city’s subway stations sustained damage due to the Russian attack, a place where many Kyiv residents sought refuge overnight.
In recent weeks, Russia has executed extensive airstrikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.
